It's fairly well-documented that I am an absolute addict when it comes to hurt/comfort fanfic (well, DUH, I moderate the White Collar H/C community over on LJ). One of my favorite writers has just posted a story that not only presses my H/C buttons, it merges them all into one, big, bright red one and bashes on it repeatedly with a mallet.
"When We Crumble" is a story about what happens when Peter is accused of Neal's murder; the delicioius twist is not just that Peter has no memory of what's happened over the last day, but that what he DOES remember involves a fight with Neal. Is he capable of having hurt his partner?
DMK0064's story covers so many of my favorite tropes: kidnapping, a bit of temporary amnesia, a metric ton of angst and guilty feelings when Neal goes missing, and, of course, slash. But it also features the loyalty of the White Collar team for their Boss in very satisfying ways (Diana, in particular, is terrific), and highlights Peter's love for Neal despite the fact they've been having a rough go of it lately.
I must warn that this is a dark fic, there is graphic violence, and it has some explicit content. If those things aren't a problem for you , give this a whirl - you won't be disappointed.
