Rabid Squee: Parting Shots

Tim DeKay as Peter Burke

Again, this week, White Collar seemed to be striving to coax the “d’awwwwws!” from deep within meh! Though Parting Shots isn’t destined to be my favorite episode, there was still plenty to squee (and wail) about.

Let’s get to it!

Peter: The FACE!  D’aww, Peter catching a glimpse of his empty office made my heart twist just a teensy bit, as did the joy on display as he was “consulting” on this case. But Hughes: why for you harsh my (and Peter’s) squee? Don’t you see that Peter and Neal are a great team?

We did learn that Peter is a SAIC, however, which I have always wondered about…

Happy to see Sara: But again she’s not given much to do. I suppose that’s the reality of being a member of such a large cast, particularly now that she and Neal aren’t dating, but if they’re going to give us some character development vis a vis her missing sister, then let’s get on with it.

Neal is such a gentleman… I love that he thinks twice about conning a widow – even if she is such a beautiful one, as played by Laura Vandevoort (and she IS stunning – my goodness).

Any episode with Neal-smoochies is a good episode.
…and a devoted son: The scenes between Neal and Ellen were so heartwarming. Knowing what’s happened to her now (SPOILER ALERT: and having seen the coming attractions, what will happen), it makes me sad that he must suffer more grief.

Neal Caffrey: The Good Son

But the work of the absolutely luminous Judith Ivey was terrific in this and the last few eps – she always makes me smile, I must say. These scenes were important in that they gave us another rare glimpse into the real Neal – who he was before he was a con, and I’m truly sorry that it looks like we won’t get that again, at least for a long time. Nor will we get more stories of wee Neal and his the hijinks he apparently got up to trying to get to school on time. Another time I was saying, “D’awww!” to my TV screen.

I was also surprised that Neal hasn’t shared much of his past with Moz either. I suppose there are pragmatic reasons – Ellen and presumably his mother were still in WITSEC – but not even a story or two? Neal plays it closer to the vest than I thought, even with the people he loves, and I find that quite an interesting, if not surprising, character development.

I just love the composition of this shot... The producers apparently do too - I noticed it in the new opening credit sequence.
 Random Squee-ables

·        Peter hates snakes. I love this for a reason I cannot name.
·        This was what, the 97th time Neal's been kidnapped on the series? Not that I’m complaining, but damn, he shouldn’t be so eager to ditch that tracker.
·        I love that Neal's bank is Midtown Mutual – gotta love the brand loyalty…

Non-Squee of the Week

White Collar Writer Dudes, what is with all the elder abuse? I mean, first June’s being shaken down by an organ donation scam in Vital Signs, then Mr. Jefferies is being menaced by Frank Deluca in The Dentist of Detroit, and Hale is brutally murdered by Keller in On the Fence. Jeez Louise, if I were a person over the age of 60 in Neal's world, I’d think about moving to Boca. Reese Hughes – you may want to think about retiring sooner rather than later, KWIS?

Quote of the Week

Neal: “They made you a consultant? Do you have a radius?”
Peter: “I have a badge.”

Heh. Heh-heh-heh. Loving the banter between my boys.

So what do you say, Collars? What was on your Squee-dar this week?

I think your quote of the week is one of my quotes of the series, lol!

And, ohmygosh, I never realized how many bad things happen to the elderly. Run Hughes!

" Peter hates snakes. I love this for a reason I cannot name."

Because that makes Peter "the archeologist" Burke Indiana Jones ? ;-)

"Peter hates snakes..."

Now I want to see him dressed up as Indiana Jones for a Hallowe'en Party scene... :-)

re.: "Elder Abuse"...

My "make-it-NOT-so" reaction to the [EVIL Spoiler] in the Scenes From Next Episode was: it's a ploy by the Marshals to get Ellen REALLY safely back into WitSec... I like Ellen, and DO NOT WANT to see Bad Things happen to her. That whole plot development is a thorough NON-Squee (hell, an ANTI-squeee) for me. MEAN writers, no biscuit!

I love Peter's boss; he's so no-nonsense compare to Peter and Neal. He's great in this episode.

I also loved how we don't get a big emotional scene between Neal and his widow at the end - they're both cool with how things worked out. No broken hearts, just thanks all around.

However, after watching all of In Plain Sight (the show), I feel like every other show gets WitSec totally wrong. Mary would have yanked Ellen ten seconds after Neal spoke with her, and that would have been better.

But since Ellen wouldn't have told Mary about Neals visit, Mary couldn't have known that there was a reason to interfere and therefor things would have turned out the same way.

I miss In Plain Sight. :-(
